Adirondacks -- January, 2006

video (a big file)

Fitting all of our gear into Raybob's car. At the lean-to outside of the luxurious Adirondak Loj. We hit the trail. Ray having fun playing burro at Marcy Dam. The cozy lean-to at Avalanche camp.

Home sweet home -- for a few days at least. Boiling water in the kitchen. Who needs heat? Avalanche Lake. The Trap Dike on Mount Colden.

Into the Trap Dike. Below the flimsy ice and glazed rock that scared us off. Some posers high up in the gully. Ray shows off his downclimbing ... ... and rappelling skills.

A beautiful afternoon on Avalanche Lake. Mount Colden from Lake Colden. On the trail up Mount Colden. Tomas on the trail. Climbing 3000 feet sure is fun.

A view of Mount Marcy. Above tree line -- Colden's main summit behind. The balanced boulder on the summit of Colden. Algonquin behind. Unoffical representatives of the republic of Bhutan gather on the summit of Mount Colden.

Thom playing burro. The load feels heavier for some reason. Starting a fire in the sleet -- it only took 35 matches. Thom at Cascade pass. The NEI 3 ice -- a rare thing in winter 2006 it would turn out.

Ice climbing is fun! Ray enjoys some climbing. Me on some steep ice. Rick with everybody's life in his hands -- please don't lean back and knock that ice umbrella off. Thom on the NEI4 Chiller Pillar near Whiteface Mountain.

Harder ice takes its toll. Raybob showing us how it's done. My turn. A panorama from the summit of Colden -- the High Peaks region.
